Sectus, Prophecy, Fans, Love and Snarry.
I think we can all agree that I suck at con reports, not as much as I suck at being on panels, but I'll get to that in a minute. What I do want to talk about, having done two amazing Harry Potter conferences (one more amazing than the other) in two weeks, is
the amazing generosity of fans.
Both Sectus and Prophecy were fun, and frantic and filled with good times and good friends. But what I'm struck by, since I've had to unpack not once but twice, is how much we as fans give each other. Yes, Rowling has given us an extraordinary playground, that I'm very relieved after the closing of canon, that I'll still be happy to play in. How amazing it is that we give each other so much as well.
People like
elanor_isolde,
annephoenix, and the rest of the Sectus con comm gave us an amazing place to congregate and read the last book, to hug and cry and console and to talk about our ships, and to leave feeling that our ship was still sailing! The lovely
lizardspots and her just as evil twin
calyxess were busy, every time I saw them, drawing art in people's books, and the ever indefatigable
snapetoy was happy to share her Snupin and young Snape porn any time someone asked.
Toy and I collaborated on having some silicon bracelets made up, which we gave away at both conferences, born of a desire to give something back to all the wonderful people who come to the Snarry events, and our panels about our two favorite boys, and the happy endings we plan on giving them now that the sandbox is ours.
The Snarry get togethers at both conferences were well attended. The one in UK organized by the resourceful
chaeche who managed to bring adorable wedding souvenirs for Snape and Harry for the meet up, as well as put together more stuff for a Snape luncheon in the best venue for one ever, a bar called Potion!
The one at Prophecy was organized by the Walking the Plank crew, and may I just say, Best. Schwag. Ever. My tote bag lust reached new heights as I saw the Snarry tote bag going into the boxes, yes,
boxes that
aliciamasters had snagged from the Deathly Hallows release. I'm not even sure how many people contributed to the Giant Heap 'o Schwag--certainly
djin7,
tripperfunster,
accioslash and
nimori (who also drew on the badges of anyone who asked--go Nim!). If I've missed anyone, my apologies, as my tote bag lust gets the better of me just thinking about it...I may, er, have rubbed it up against my body a few times...
Everyone was very generous with drabbles too--I even wrote one, though the person requesting it thought I was a more famous Snarry writer-I gave it my best though! I got fabulous drabbles from
ziasudra_fics (which made me sniffly with happiness), from
amanuensis1 (which made me giggly), and from
cordelia_v (which made me happy and warm inside).
The lovely
valis2 gave me one of
these which I also may have rubbed up against myself several times with teh luv.
Fans are generous in other ways too, I don't mean to imply that you must give away stuff for us to love you.
logospilgrim gives us the most heartwrenching words when she talks about Snape. People like
treewishes is quite generous in putting me on panels, even though I'm the worst panelist ever. *sigh*
Yes, Book 7 is out, and I'm still happy to be here among all of you. I don't mean just here at LJ or GJ or wherever you're reading this, but among fans, fen. Where you go, I'll go too. And bring Snape, happily shagging Harry with me.
PS. If I did 'art' in your book, it's supposed to be a dementor. Not a ghost giving a blowjob.
